Long Years of Separation

There are literally millions of images of a divided Germany.
The aim of this page is to display a small number of images which will remind the reader of how Germany looked for almost thirty years.

The Inner German Border crossed hundreds of kilometers of open countryside



Roads heading east were suddenly dead-ends



Rivers and streams were protected borders



Anybody from the West taking an interest in the border would be closely watched



Berlin was unique in that the border ran through the middle of a built up area
