Project Emily

RAF Driffield No:98(SM) Squadron

Two locations have visible remains and one is completely cleared

An aerial photograph of RAF Driffield with the three Thor emplacements still clearly visible

An overlay of the official site plan with Google Maps

The RP1 fuel storage area at LE32......the Thor site is in the corner of a former Army Driver Training area and the emplacements have been used as training features
LE31 in the upper left corner of the image

Earth and gravel have been piled up against one of the blastwalls - the tops can just be seen

On top of the mound, the 'L' shape of the blastwall is clearly visible - together with evidence of military training

The Thor missile would have been lying on the RHS of the image, the mounting mechanism is now buried under the mound

Looking at the RP1 fuel storage area with the 'blastwall mound' on the RHS of the image

Traces of the rail mountings for the retractable Thor cover for LE32

The area of the electrotheodolite building and the track returning to the centre of LE32

At LE31, parts of the mounting mechanism are still visible

The location of the liquid oxygen storage tank at LE31 with the RP1 storage area just visible in the top RH corner

The Launch Control Area is under the large mound seen in the distance (with the main gate some distance behind)

The main hangers (RIM and Technical Storage) can be seen in the distance
This image gives an indication of the distance of the Thor emplacements from the rest of the camp

Secret details of the routes to be taken when transporting the Thor missiles between Driffield (the Wing HQ) and the four satellite squadrons
