The Green Line in Cyprus

The Village of Chatos

The village known as Chatos or Kiados is a large Turkish Cypriot village situated in the middle of the Mesaoria plain. In 1958 the name was changed to Serdarli.

We visited in May 2019 and located the coffeeshop used by Commander Packard.

We were told that the building at the rear of the first image had been demolished and the gap (in the second image) was where it once stood.
They knew the mukhtar but told me that he was no longer alive.

The senior members of the coffeeshop reflect on the picture in Martin Packard's book.
