The crew of Lancaster DS681 (426 Sqn)

This Lancaster took off from Linton-on-Ouse at 2132hrs. It was damaged and attempted to make a forced landing. After three bonces the plane was seen to burst into flames. It crashed at 0050hrs 3km south of Greifswald. Only one member of the crew was taken POW. Wing Commander Crooks was on his eighth operation of a second tour.
