Takeoff at 2049hrs from Wyton. This Mosquito was part of the diversionary raid on Berlin intended to draw the night-fighters away from the main target at Peenemünde. The starboard engine was hit by flak fragments and shut down. They returned 430 miles back to base on one engine. Unfortunately, lack of fuel caused this engine to cut out during the landing at Swanton Morley in Norfolk. In the subsequent crash F/L Crampton was injured and spent six weeks in hospital.
