The Loss of Lancaster JA691

 The crew of JA892 (49 Sqn)

This Lancaster took off from Fiskerton at 2147hrs. It was attacked by a night-fighter and set on fire. Although two of the engines were still working the aircraft quickly became uncontrollable. Several of the crew had baled out when the aircraft exploded. The pilot was blown clear and has no memory of opening his parachute. The aircraft crashed near Greifswald and five members of the crew were taken POW.
