The crew of Lancaster JA897 (44 Sqn)
This Lancaster took off from Dunholme Lodge at 2201hrs. It was hot by cannon fire from a night fighter and the crew were ordered to abandon the aircraft. Sgt Sparks managed to open one of the hatches and escape; the only crew member to do so.
