Yorkshire's East Coast

Grimston Cliffs

On your way to the cliffs at Grimston, the church of St Michael at East Garton has a splendid carpark (with some shade).

The Grade 1 listed church has restricted opening times (link opens in a new window).

Ample parking is available and it appears to be a favourite dog walking area.

On the day of our visit it was extremely hot and the shade from the trees was much appreciated.

The road continues to the farm entrance (marked with the red spot).
At this point we politely asked the farmer for permission to park and walk to the viewing point.

The fence on the skyline is the edge of the advancing cliff face.
The farmer explained that he had lost several metres of land over the last few years.

It is interesting to note that the viewing point, at the bend in the road, was much closer to the cliff edge than the above Google Map shows.
The sign of land loss is only too obvious.
