The Nuremberg Rallies

The 1937 Nuremberg Rally

The Rally of Work (6th-13th September)

This rally celebrated the reduction of unemployment and the success of the Four-Year Plan in overcoming the shortage of raw materials and increasing the pace of rearmament.

On July 1st the well trained organising team started planning for the rally.
The preparations were the same as last year but the process was becoming more streamlined and efficient.

For the first time diplomatic corps members from the Western world attended the rally (including the Britsh and French Ambassadors and the US Chargé d'Affaires).

According to custom, all the church bells rang for half and hour to mark the beginning of the rally.

On the 9th September the cornerstone of the gigantic new German Stadium was laid.

The weather for this rally was unkind in that it rained for the majority of the events.

Viktor Lutze's (Head of the SA) address was sinister as he made a public attack on the church.
He declared that a good Christian was one who, "served their country well".

The military manoeuvres impressed observers as they saw a high degree of motorised/mechanised equipment being used.

The artificially high proportion of mechanised equipment on dislay at the Zeppelinfeld

This was a clever deception as, during the invasion of France in 1940, it is estimated that only 10% to 20% of the German Army was motorised or mechanised.
