The Nuremberg Rallies

The Opera House

The Opera House was a magnificent Art Nouveau structure built between 1903 and 1905.......shortly after the publication of this map.

The location of the Opera House.....close to Hitler's hotel and the railway station

On the Day of Greeting, Hitler would watch his favourite opera........Richard Wagner’s – Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (which lasted over 4 hours).

In 1934, Hitler commissioned Nazi architect Paul Schultze-Naumburg to strip the building’s original Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) elements, which the regime viewed as "bourgeois" and "degenerate".
The interior was redesigned to be more minimal and brutalist, creating a sober environment that reflected the building's dual function as a theatre and political assembly hall.

Die Meistersinger featured an opulent set designed by Benno von Arent and was performed by a high-calibre ensemble selected by Hitler himself.
