The Baedeker Raid on York

Private Charles Jones

Charles Jones was a member of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps...service number 3524297.

He came from Wythenshawe, Manchester and is buried in the Manchester Southern Cemetery.

Records show Pte Jones was posted to York on the 2nd August 1941.
He had previously served with the BEF in France with a highly significant 'to' date.

No specific information has yet been discovered as to the circumstances of his death but it could safely be assumed that he was killed out in the open whilst assisting the Civil Defence with their air raid duties.

He may have been assisting members of the Royal Pioneer Corps who were supporting the RAOC in York. Three members of the RPC were killed that night.
