A closer view of the memorial.

John Ruskin was sent to York to engage in....."work of national importance". It is interesting to note that, in Boston, he was apprenticed to a Funeral Director.
John was also a member of the St John's Ambulance Brigade and it appears likely that he left his place of safety to assist other injured in the street when another bomb dropped nearby. His wife, who remained indoors, was uninjured.
