The Baedeker Raid on York

The Queens Anne's School Shelter

The long complex of shelters is situated next to the present day tennis courts.

The roof at the southern end of the shelter shows signs of damage.
The houses of Sycamore Terrace can be seen above the shelter's roof.

The shelter, although one long row, was split into several sections, each with its own entrance.

The brick wall showing some shrapnel damage. The bomb dropped into the soft ground of the playing fields thus reducing the blast damage .

The end closest to the school shows signs of having been repaired.

Inside the shelter, at the northern end, now used to store grass cutting equipment.

Inside the southern end of the shelter showing the steel girder and concrete roof.
This space is now used to store PE equipment.

I would like to thank St Olave's School for allowing me access to the school grounds to view the shelter and to Peter for showing me inside.
