T/160000 Sgt James Armitage came from Leith, Scotland.









He was a Sergeant in the Army Physical Training Corps and was attached to the Royal Corps of Signals who were based in Fulford Barracks.

No specific information has yet been discovered as to the circumstances of his death but it could safely be assumed that he was killed out in the open whilst assisting the Civil Defence with their air raid duties.

He is buried in the Edinburgh Rosebank Cemetery (Section D Grave 146).

This cemetery is the location of the Gretna Memorial......the victims of the WW1 Gretna Green railway disaster.
