The DDR - Revisited

Liebau

Liebau and nearby Kaulsroth were victims of Operation Vermin and were evacuated in 1952.

The villages were totally demolished in 1975.

The village of Liebau before total demolition.

Much has been done to memorialise their existence.

The trail to Kaulsroth.

A little further down this road (on the RHS) is the village memorial.

A view over what was called the "Liebauer Sack"......the Liebau pocket.

The location of Kaulsroth.

In 1980 the Stasi found a crashed West German car on their territory.
The map clearly shows the sensitive location of the former village.

The car is indicated as being in DDR territory.
